As a young boy in Connecticut, he became interested in trapping and was fortunate to connect with a number of "old timers" who taught him many skills and respect for nature. He was involved in State and National Associations, attending conferences and conventions making many friends around the country.
After graduating from Bryant (College) University with a degree in Business and Law Enforcement, professionally he had varied careers and excelled in them all. He became a special welder, assembling jet engines for Pratt & Whitney. In the early 1980's, he joined Aetna where he entered their Management Training program. He worked there for 20+ years advancing to the position of Director, Call Center Management & Telecommunications
Alan was always learning something new and had a variety of interests. An eclectic hobbyist, over the years he was involved with bottle hunting, coin collecting, leather working, scuba diving, beekeeping, gardening, metal detecting, and boating in his Mokai. An avid reader, he had knowledge in a wide variety of topics. He loved to travel and see new places across the U.S. , the Caribbean, Asia and Europe.
Alan was a real people person, greatly loved by his family and many friends, old and new, close and around the world. His quick wit, playful spirit, willingness to share information & help others, along with a bright smile, drew people to him. He passed away in March of 2023 after a valiant & courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Alan was a pioneer in the wildlife control industry. He held many association positions and was a frequent speaker at industry conventions, trade shows and training sessions. He ran a successful wildlife control company, Nuisance Wildlife Services and recognized a need to service the quickly growing animal damage control & wildlife management industry with knowledge and quality products.
After an early retirement from corporate America in the late 1990's, with his extensive business background, wildlife industry knowledge and the birth of e-commerce, he opened Wildlife Control Supplies (aka WCS), which today is the well-respected and successful industry leading supplies company servicing Wildlife Professionals worldwide.
WCS was one of the first to offer expertise, knowledge, and a broad variety of products to professionals entering this emerging industry. It was the first business in the industry to have an on-line store, supporting professionals not only in the U.S., but also internationally. The company sold in 2018, but Alan continued as a consultant sharing his knowledge and expertise, helping it continue to grow and thrive.
